• Using a unique hand signal for going to the bathroom so that students won’t disrupt instruction by asking permission to go.

  • Students must be taught how to think, not what to think.
  • Start as you mean to go! You can always loosen the reins, but it is much harder to tighten them back up.
  • Don’t underestimate acknowledging positive behaviors.
  • If the students aren’t responding, do something different.
